South Australian Boat Licence Course
3 Hour Theory & Assessment
We offer face to face classroom training sessions which includes in class theory with an experienced commercial marine trainer, on completion of the theory you will be required to do a written MCQ exam. If you successfully pass the written exam you will be issued your ABC certificate, which you present to Service SA Centre where upon a licence will be issued once the licence fee is paid.
For larger groups or if you are unable to attend a programmed training session, please submit an email to Adam via the contact page to make other arrangements for a time and date that suits your needs.

SA Boat Licence FAQs
A South Australian Recreational boat licence is required for anyone wanting to operate a boat or PWC in SA waters. ABC South Australia are experts in the industry and offer an information education session and assessment so you can feel confident that you and your passengers are safe on the water.
Who needs to have a Boat Licence?
You must hold a current boat operator’s licence to operate any type of recreational boat/PWC fitted with an engine (whether you are using the engine or not!).
Am I required to undertake a practical assessment?
In South Australia it is not a requirement to undertake a practical assessment (unless for a Special Permit – refer to www.sa.gov.au to find out more), however ABC South Australia offers practical boat handling training – contact Adam to find out more.
What is the minimum age to obtain a Boat Licence?
The minimum age to obtain a boat licence (including PWC) is 16 years. Under 16 years requires a Special Permit. These can only be obtained directly through Service SA.
Will my South Australian boat licence be valid throughout Australia?
You can use your South Australian boat licence across Australia. It is worth researching each state/territories government website to see if any restrictions apply.
Does a South Australian boat licence expire?
No! Your SA boat licence will not expire.
